ABSTRACT. Simon (1864) described seven family‑group names and 13 tribe‑group names. The present article argues that, under the ICZN Code, these names are available despite their French endings. Consequently, Simon’s names that are senior synonyms have priority over later ones. The authorship of the following family names should be corrected: Filistatidae Simon, 1864 (not Ausserer, 1867); Segestriidae Simon, 1864 (not Simon, 1893); Anyphaenidae Simon, 1864 (not Bertkau, 1878); Tetragnathidae Simon, 1864 (not Menge, 1866); Hersiliidae Simon, 1864 (not Thorell, 1869); Philodromidae Simon, 1864 (not Thorell, 1870); Dolomedidae Simon, 1864 (not Simon, 1876). These changes do not affect stability, as only the citation of authorship changes, not the family names themselves. Two of Simon’s names, Myrméciformes and Phalangoïdiens, are unavailable.
