ABSTRACT. Helluonine ground beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) of Vietnam are reviewed and keyed. All species are re-distributed between two genera. Macrocheilus Hope, 1838 (= Colfax Andrewes, 1920, syn.n.) is considered to include chiefly the Oriental members of the genus that share the elytra with a quadrimaculate pale pattern, and Acanthogenius Reiche, 1842 (= Creagris Nietner, 1857, syn.n.), stat.rest., is resurrected from a junior synonym of Macrocheilus to combine the remaining Paleotropical species, except for six recently described from China or India; for these a new genus, Syntomocheilus gen.n. is erected. New nine species are described: M. vietnamenis sp.n., M. nigrans sp.n., and M. obliquatus sp.n. from Vietnam; M. fuscicornis sp.n. from Vietnam and China; M. capitatus sp.n. from Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam; M. annulicornis sp.n. from Thailand, M. pusillus sp.n. from Laos and Thailand; M. lankaensis sp.n. from Sri Lanka, and M. kryzhanovskyi sp.n. from Yunnan, China. Macrocheilus infuscatus Bates, 1892 (= M. gigas Zhao et Tian 2010, syn.n.), stat.rest., is resurrected from synonymy of M. bensoni Hope, 1838. New synonymy also includes A. distactus (Wiedemann, 1823) = A. bisignatus Landin, 1955, syn.n., comb.n. The genus Polistichus Bonelli, 1810, is transferred from Zuphiini to Helluonina once again, which subtribe corresponds with the former tribe Helluonini downgraded to a subtribe of the tribe Anthiini. This latter tribe along with Zuphiini and Dryptini (= Galeritini; = Planetina; = Physocrotaphini) is placed within the supertribe Dryptitae sensu Erwin et Sims, 1984, of the subfamily Harpalinae.
